Explanation

The Shoah is the genocide of the Jews organised by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. At school, it is studied to understand the consequences of hatred, racism and antisemitism. It is also studied to remind people of the importance of the duty of remembrance.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A. To celebrate the 1945 victory — The Shoah is not studied to celebrate a victory: the Shoah is a genocide. The 1945 victory is commemorated separately, on 8 May.
  • B. To teach a religion to pupils — In state schools, there are no religion classes. The Shoah is studied to understand the consequences of hatred, racism and antisemitism.
  • D. To prepare pupils to become soldiers — The aim is not to train soldiers. School studies the Shoah to understand the consequences of hatred, racism and antisemitism, and to remind people of the importance of the duty of remembrance.
